An Analogy

I'm thinking about applying to be the editor of The New York Times.

After all, I'm totally qualified. I spent three years as a township beat reporter and feature writer for a local suburban weekly paper, and later became the copy editor.

I've covered school board meetings and development hearings, not to mention human-interest stories and interviews with the occasional visiting celebrity.

It is just a tiny step from there to filing daily stories on wars, world leaders, terrorism, high finance, and natural disasters around the globe.

How hard can it be?
