Carols and Cookies and Cider, Oh My!

Yesterday, I had the fun of being in a traveling Christmas-carol party!

A friend invited me to come caroling with her church group, and another friend joined us. The rainy weather didn't dampen our spirits a bit! Our convoy of cars stopped at two homes of older longtime church members, and a third member in a nursing home. Imagine a roomful of singers and guitar players pouring into your living room and gathering in song around your tree! We sang everything from "Silent Night" and "Joy to the World" to "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," with the kids adding in funny bits like:

"All of the other reindeer
Used to laugh and call him names (like Pinocchio)
They never let poor Rudolph
Join in any reindeer games (like Monopoly)!"

Each visit ended with us singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."

The host homes were great, with punch waiting for us at the first house, and warm-from-the-oven Christmas cookies at the next! And we wound down the day at another home, where wonderful hot cider, chocolate-chip cookies, ham sandwiches and more awaited us, and we enjoyed them in front of a crackling fire!

It had been too long since I'd been caroling. Now I have a beautiful memory to carry me through Christmas!
