The Super Bowl of Stress

Sunday night was a stress-inducing nail-biter with second-by-second suspense.

And then there was the football game.

About an hour before the Super Bowl, I got a call that my father had been taken to the ER with chest pains. He had already had one heart attack, a little more than a year ago.

Since my parents are in Massachusetts, I could only wait till we knew more. As you can imagine, the game receded in importance; I peeked at the score from time to time, but mostly I cleaned, organized and worked on emails in case I had to make a trip north at a moment's notice. The TV is near the computer, so I could hear Tom Petty as I worked.

Already keyed up with nervous energy about my father and the Pats, my mood fluctuated wildly -- soaring when the Pats were ahead, and plummeting when the Giants made the last-minute leap forward to win the game.

Then I called the hospital since no one had called me, and my father's nurse told me he's doing well and all his tests came back negative! They'll keep him overnight for observation, but wow, it could be so much worse.

Congratulations to the New York Giants for their 17-14 win in Super Bowl XLII.

But I'm celebrating a bigger victory tonight.
